Courchevel is amidst stunning scenery in Les Trois Vallees and links with Meribel and Mottaret, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and a number of other smaller villages which are well worth visiting if only for a well earned lunch. With 600 kilometres of pistes and over 200 ski lifts, the scope is unlimited. When the weather conditions are right, touring Les Trois Vallees across to Meribel, Mottaret, Val Thorens and Les Menuires offers an exhilarating days skiing. The Grand Couloir is thought to be one of the ten most challenging runs in the world. The deep powder and steep black runs will also give enjoyment to the best of skiers..
For beginners there is a vast expanse of green and blue runs and there is a free beginners lift very close to the chalet.
For snow boarders the terrain is as demanding as one wants it to be and there are a number of competitions for those who want to test their ability.
There are a number of ski and boot hire shops in Courchevel 1550 but we have found that Intersport run by Bernard and Chantal have given particually good and reasonably priced services to our clients for the past ten years - they bend over backwards to help! Book before the end of September 2009, the prices will be the same as the previous season. After the end of September 2009 there will be a slight price increase with new ski and boot models available. Skies are waxed and edged using a high-tech stone grinder each time they are hired out.
We also can highly recommend ESF Couchevel1550. They offer group lessons in English as well as individual lessons. For these the instructors will come to our Chalet and collect you.
A new British run ski school for experts www.alpinemasters.co.uk opened for the 2009 - 2010 Season. This particularly caters for advanced off-piste guiding.
There is also a brand new purpose built 300sq m creche with direct access to Club Piou Piou. This welcomes children from 18months to 12 years old. It is run by the 1550 ESF ski school. Children can remain there all day, mornings or afternoons, and is about 300 metres from the Chalet.
Jerome Lacoste runs Energy Ski, offering fun and technical ski lessons in private as well as small groups. Jerome is particularly good with teenagers who wish to be challenged! He has previously worked with the ESF in 1850, as well as other ski school companies. He is also BASI qualified. Everyone who has a lesson loves it. Not only does he put you on video and give you the film, he has the most wonderful way of giving instruction. He has the best teaching and guiding technique we have every come across in 20 years of being in Courchevel and highly recommend him.
Courchevel offers a wide range of slopes which cater for every skill level from beginner to expert. Courchevel is one of The Three Valleys, a large area of fantastic skiing.
There is a network of safe and clearly marked walking trails. There are courses for snowshoe walkers (a kind of underfoot tennis racket) as well as cross-country skiing. There is an olympic skating rink, bowling alley and a number of other sporting activities as well as special rate passes to take non-skiers to the vast range of mountain restaurants.
